July 24, 2020 Shoemaker RV Park Eagle Lake Style

Image
Our campsite at Shoemakers in Missouri. When we first got here, I was not impressed at all. Actually, I think I had a moment. When we first drove in I saw all packed in people, different from what I was used to and thought...this is not for me. Come to find out, all people are very friendly, the surroundings are very pretty but yes we are all on top of each other.  Another view of the cram and jam. Away from this circle it is not so crowded. Here is where the lake view is and the power, water, sewer.  View of the lake.  Many families here, grandparents with grandkids, lots of bikes, the lake, etc. That is what reminded me of Eagle Lake with the families. Everyone super friendly  We are adjacent to a cemetery.  Our trip here got off to a very long start. We did NOT refer to our map in the morning and ended up going all the way up into Iowa (not a state on our route). We finally caught it when I activated navigate. I thought "wait, we are su...

July 23, 2020 Camp A Way; Lincoln, Nebraska

Image
We are in Lincoln, Nebraska, having traveled 458 miles today, 8 hours. It actually was a pleasant drive through Nebraska, think corn fields and green. I continue to be surprised how much the COVID-19 has infiltrated everywhere. I was happy to see people masked up! We are at  Camp A Way It is a WONDERFUL RV Park as the pictures can attest. I was excited because the park was rated a 10 and the reviews supported that score. Every day, when we are on the road, I use Good Sam Trip planner. It shows us our route across I80. It also provides all the campgrounds available and distances between stops. I usually choose one, then put it in trip planner to see if it works, distance wise; then I check reviews. If it doesn't pass my bottom line, I start looking again. It has to be rated "8" and have decent reviews. I avoid parks that have long term residents, because I am a snob that way. For the most part, we have been happy with out parks. Last night was a little sketchy but ...

July 21,2020 Pony Express RV Park; Salt Lake City

Image
We covered around 360 miles today from Winnemucca to Salt Lake City. A long boring drive so not much to say! This park is large and a good overnight stay; a bit spendy but that is because it is right next to Salt Lake City. The dogs are doing well! They are such good travelers; they pretty much just snooze the whole way. I-80 is a straight stretch across the US to Illinois. As such, most of the available RV stops are utilitarian. Both of these sites though have been exceptionally clean and well managed. Pony Express is really packed. We aren't exactly on top of each other but as close to that as you can be. There are some that stay longer, given their site set-up and their plates (Utah). There isn't that feel of long term residents though. It looks like we might have some thunder storms today. It has been hot. We travel 300 miles today. On to Rawlings, Wyoming today!

July 22, 2020 Cheyenne

We are in Cheyenne, Wyoming at  http://www.campcheyenne.com/ AB Camping RV Park. It is a rustic, well kept park that provides for decent size gravel spots, walking areas for the dogs and great hospitality. Great for an overnight stay. We pushed hard today: 450 miles. The same for tomorrow. We will break up the trip over Friday and Saturday. The drive from Salt Lake City was much more scenic!

July 20, 2020 We are on our way to Litchfield, Illinois. We will be visiting with family. Tonight we are staying at  www.NewFrontierRVPark.com We are in Winnemucca, Nevada. I was born here as was my sister, Sally. Winnemucca has grown quite a bit. This park is a newer park and well organized, clean and spacious. It is HOT! and we are not used to that, but we will adjust. I have packed the frig and cupboard with food as we are dealing with the Coronavirus Pandemic. We decided to travel via our RV so that we could minimize our interactions with others to practice Social Distance as is recommended by CDC. We wear our masks when in company of others. This so far, is working very well. We really do not have to interact with anyone! I have brought MANY veggies from our garden. We plan on traveling on East 80 to Illinois. On the way home we will head north and travel US Highway 2. Our two schnauzers, Sunny (2 almost 3) and Bailey (7)  are traveling well. They just ...
